Re: A new client.

Internally, strings can be whatever you want them to be. That's not the hardest part. The hardest part is chat support, which IMAO should be ripped out and replaced with a simple IRC server that only MAngband can connect to. That being said, I do support the idea. A 60 character line is 240 bytes of...

Re: Auto-retaliator melee deadlock

Cool fix. I like it.

Now the inevitable what-if: What happens when you get hit by something that destroys your items?

Re: Erm...my account is hosed?

Eh, I'll delete this thread and your other username when it's all taken care of. Until then, this should stay up to remind folks to email Crimson if they have problems with their forum logins.

Don't forget about gdb, PowerWyrm! gdb can save your whole week.

I'm very curious to see what happens with this one.

Re: Server down.

Why not upload your savefile somewhere, so the experts can give it a peek? By the way, MAngband is straight C. Go ahead and tweak, but remember to back up things often and change the save AND load routines. Tip: To alter an existing savefile's structure you should tweak the save function, recompile,...

Multiple servers per machine solution

Here's my most recent idea on the subject of running multiple servers on one machine. Extending this functionality without breaking older clients or the metaserver is possible. The metaserver does not need to be altered in any fashion. Servers could send a port number as part of the info string, whi...

Re: Server problems.

Could be a bad hard drive, then. When things don't read back the way you wrote them, or if reading a small file causes a full-system hang.. that's usually a sign of a dying hard drive. Get a SMART readout from the drive if it's new enough and check the numbers. But more importantly, make a big old T...

Re: Server problems.

Sounds like you've possibly got port triggering set up instead of port forwarding.

Indeed! Very good turnaround time, one day. I was wondering where they went yesterday. What's the scoop?

Also: Could there be a link to the forums on the mangband.org front page?

Re: Feature request #1 - Dropping gold

I think a better solution would be to recognize a special case where the user types "ALL" or somesuch special word. The code that prevents you from dropping all your gold is there in case you try to drop 50000 gold and accidentally drop 500000... Oops!

Re: PVP System -- Feature Discussion

Let's take a page from World of Warcraft. Check this out. On PvE (see note*) servers like the one I play on, you must type "/pvp" to toggle your PvP flag on and off. When it is toggled on, you are immediately considered targetable, and can attack other PvP flagged players. When it is toggled off, it...

Re: PVP System

Allow me to point out that time spent leveling is not a concern for a dedicated griefer. It takes me days to get to level 20, playing a few hours a day. I'll admit, I suck at the game, but it's still fun. It took Kull an hour to get to level 20. It would probably take him a day to get a level 40. If...

Template's House O' Deals

The shops are overflowing and stacks of ammo are hiding under the excess merchandise!

If you need arrows/bolts/shots and Template is on, ask about the ammo you need.
