Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

Thanks. I have Tortoise from a while back when I wanted to look at Jug's code. I used to use the ci & co commands back when I used that stuff in a class in college, but I haven't since then (and it's been a while.) Most likely I will be doing development work in a Ubuntu image under VMWare, so I'll ...

Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

AFAIK, nobody has a native Win32 mangconsole. You'd have to use Cygwin, because it just isn't portable. It's probably the least supported part of the game. A GUI "console" app would be fantastic, if you're into that. I renamed it to "remote" (as in remote control) for my variant because "console" do...

Re: New MAngband variant

Have you seen the new preview release of Angband 3.0.8? Either one of the new menu and birth systems are worth the whole download. I'm wondering how feasible it would be to port those new systems to MAngband?

Here's the link to the changelog which contains the download link.

Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

Nice job. It'll be a while before I get into coding, due to plenty of RL things, but I anticipate us seeing a decent amount of progress with the new setup. Don't forget to test your builds for breakage before submitting, everyone... Useful things for Windows users: TortoiseSVN, VMware Player (and th...

Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

Are you doing an automated build system then? Make sure you have a Build-And-Go script so that when the newly built server crashes at startup, you can rebuild and restart without waiting an hour to see if you fixed the problem. Also, let's see about providing some advanced test characters. Caching t...

Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

OK, good, I'm glad there isn't another rebellion, and I agree with you about Crimson being a good guy. From the limited exposure I've had to him anyway :) We'll need to agree upon what exactly "vanilla" means. That's been a real debate for years and years. The main two viewpoints (grossly oversimpli...

Obligatory link to the Angband Open Source Initiative... here

Recoding things that don't fall under the GPL would enable us to be fully GPL, if anyone else is interested in working on that.

Re: Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

I like you. You sound a lot like me when I was new to the development process here. Not to rain on your parade, but there's a bit of a problem with your idea. There's only one person who officially owns MAngband, and the last time someone (iThink) tried to take over, they basically got shut down and...

The circuit board (offscreen) breathes fire.  It was an excellent hit!  You feel bored.  ;D

Re: HPs at level 50

You could whip up a test case calculator in your favorite RAD tool or spreadsheet, or even as a CGI script. Just yank the formulas from the code. Heck, that's a good way to do any kind of balancing. I too noted that most endgame characters were roughly the same in terms of various health attributes....

Done! Enjoy your new forum, which you can moderate (sticky and close mostly), and your official status as a variant maintainer. I moved this topic from the development forum to your new one.

Re: Number of players: 0

Yep.

I'm busy doing commercial software development as a second job *and* moving out of town. So when I've got a few precious minutes of free time, I'm usually spending them with someone :)

If someone made a decent Flash Roguelike, I'd totally play it on TV from my couch...
