The way I see classes in Angband is this: Class Spell/melee strength Gimmick ------- ----------------------------------- ------ Mage strong spells, weak melee none Ranger medium spells, medium melee Bows Rogue weak spells, strong melee Stealth Warrior no spells, great melee none Paladin weak prayers...

complaining about AC with some equipment under +15 to ac?
You coulda boosted AC by 16 with some town scumming.
Also your weapon had only +12 tohit, so you could have improved that a bit too.

Bladeturner isnt *that* rare. The issue is that Power Dragon scale mail is that rare, and the artifact needs to first match the base item. Bladeturner isnt that much better either. Good posts Schroeder. I agree, except maybe the "dungeon time" thing could be related to character level instead of max dungeon level. This way people who scum low depths have to scum for 2 hours or so to clock their time, whereas a diver only has to play for about 30 minutes of intense dungeon play.

A long time ago arts were 100x more rare. Now this is silly, since we dont have 100 players, but we do have about 10-25 active players most of the time. Why not make arts 25x rarer so then scumming for arts immediately after arts are freed isnt so easy. This also makes it go from "damnit this guaran...

Ive always thought that class specialization is a good idea, but if there is no way to change your mind, you might get frustrated if you made suboptimal choices you didn't realize until later. Thats the same reason I turn off sticky keys. Sometimes when im bored/nervous i just keep tapping buttons that shouldnt do anything by themselves like ctrl or shift.
