Re: Move towards highly configurable servers

That having been said, who put strnicmp() in Jug's code base, without even a check to make sure that was available outside of MSVC/BCC (which it's not, unless you now include another special libarary)

Re: !!@#! Create Stairs spell

There is confusion here that suspects a RNG remembers the last result.  it does not.  a 50/50 chance means you could potentially fail 3000 times in a row to get the desired result.

This is also the most common and major failure gambling, as it turns out.  "oh baby, Red 22 is *due*!"

Re: Floating eye perma-paralysis sucks.

Interesting thought, and it improves the "Uh-Oh, what'd I just miss" feature, which makes them learn the importance of ^P.

Server Reset Pending.

Zaphod has announced that this weekend he will again face his arch nemesis Morgoth, Lord of Darkness, in his second recent bid to pick up a crown. Come join the show this weekend, and wish him luck. Win or Lose, closely following that will be a server reset of the Mangband.org instance, so I can sta...

I guess the easiest fix for the eyes is to make the tele after the player gets put to sleep.

Re: Wilderness monster flags

The current (and horribly inefficient) system uses something towards a fractal generator I beleive.  It simply remembers the original "seed" for any given level, and it can regenerate it from scratch.  That saves the server from having to load in each level bit from the save file, which would be unt...

Re: The mangband.org Ladder

I have rigged a way for automatic ladder updates to occur every hour.  I'll monitor this and see how it runs, and if it'll be  available long term or not.

Re: The mangband.org Ladder

I have written a Perl script that now includes characters from the High Score list, including winners.

The results are already up on the ladder.

General Server Cleanup.

I cleaned house a good bit today.  In general. 1) If you had an artifact housed, it's gone, go find it again. 2) If you'd not played in quite some time and were wearing an artifact, it's been removed. 3)  Ancient characters of low-mid level were removed to restore some houses back to the game. Cheer...

it was, as I'd said, all of LATNIC.

yes, this was perhaps overly wide, but they appeared to be albe to jump ranges at will, and pretty much left me no alternative.

Given the time that's gone by, sure, I'll remove it.   First sign of a problem though, and the entire space goes back in.

Re: Problems with server

The only thing I can think of is a glitch in rolling changes out from Network Solutions (again).  As I suspected, it resolved itself, given enough time.
