Thanks Crimson. This is great! I just have a few questions tho.

I used to play Finks server. He had dwarven cities at 1k, 2k, etc. So you could buy some supplies that you missed. I just dived down to 1k, and found out that they aren't here on your server. Is there anyway to buy supplies, or is this just dive dive dive like a madman and hope you find what you need?

Also I dunno if it's a bug, but it seems that scrolls of teleport level can take you up 50 feet. Is it supposed to be that way? I thought that was disabled now in 1.0.0 Ironman.

Finally, if there are no dwarven towns ATM, will you enable some in the future?

This is a 1.0 alpha server. Once the beta release is available, all new features from the main trunk will be available on the ironman server I guess. So let's just wait one more week and dive like mad for fun...
About cities every 1k, without them it will be a challenge to survive and I don't think many people will be able to dive a char below 1k without oil, food, potions, scrolls, books... and I even think there should be cities every 500ft now that tele level will push you down everytime.

Especially since I dropped my food at 950 for an (excellent) item, expecting a town at 1k... Well I'll just dive till I starve with that char. Or find new foods... Time to test those mushrooms, haha.

This is just a story about a dive, sorry. Read post if you wish.

Made it to 1500FT as a gnome warrior. Had Narthanc, Thengel, bronze DSM and some excellent Metal Shod boots.

I was extremely unlucky with perception staffs. I found only 2. Also no damage rings found.

My kills include Nar, Khim, Ibun and Mim.

Q summoned brown Zs on me, then... SPLAT! But it was a fun run.

I had 5 flasks of oil left, and 2 rations of food, 1 elvish waybread, and 3 scrolls of satisfy hunger.

The Secret of the Missing Dwarven Towns

Post by Crimson » Tue 11.03.2008, 13:38

Apparently the way this worked is there were special levels hand crafted by fink for the Dwarven halls. But these appear to have been lost when Fink departed the crowd. If somebody happens to have a copy of them, I can just plop them in, and the problem is solved. If not, then I'll have to try to re-create something at least functional (albeit it will not be even close to the craftsmanship Fink's had).

Town Levels restored

Post by Crimson » Tue 11.03.2008, 15:37

The subterranean town levels have been restored, though no where near as nice as they'd been on Fink's server.

My apologies for the oversight.

(Thanks Jug for providing them).

Fink gave me his hand designed level (server-level-20, the levels at 2k and below were the classic ones) when I coded the Ironman mode for PWMAngband. I'll post the link to the file as soon as I come back home tonight.
