... so ... close ..... grrk!!@#

Literally one screw stands between me and trying to boot up on a new motherboard. One   freaking   screw. Bah!  This has been a hardware comedy of errors, but victory will soon be mine!

Phewee! Man, what a rough ride that was. Anyhoo, server is back up!

Over the next day or two you may see it appear and dissappear - have no fear: thats just me reinstalling various things and patching up etc.

Re: Chatbot in beta testing

You will see a character connected to the Ironman server (currently, IRONMAN_IRC). This is a cool script that I'm testing, which our own Flambard banged out over the last couple weeks.

It sends chat from the game server to an irc channel (irc.perl.org #finks_ironman), and vice versa.

So we have chatlogs, finally! It's pretty cool stuff. Also shows unique kills and player deaths :) Great work by Flambard :)

Hola Ironpeople!

I have a little experiment I want to run on my server (details forthcoming when the time comes). This would mean wrapping up the current instance to do so.

My plan was to wait until we are out of alpha/beta stage on vanilla Mangband, but I'm getting itchy to try some stuff out.

So, "soon," I will end the current instance. For a few of you, this means the end of some deeply-diven (TM) characters. Consider this fair warning that the End is Nigh, and dive on down!

oh no!
or... you're gonna put the savefiles somewhere safe and then put them back in after your experiment?

Heck no! After the experiment, I'll start using the 1.0 code ;)

I found the balance DSM on 650 ft I believe. The balance DSM really helped me survive encounters with umber hulks.

The orc pits and troll pits that I found were important for gaining levels and finding items. They are easy and not very risky if you can cast detect monsters and you can tell where every monster moves.

My rogue's detect monsters spell is very useful for seeing dangerous monsters like nexus hounds and red nagas. My warrior Slasher died from nexus hounds.

After 1000 ft, objects of restoration start appearing. So when a ghost on 1350 ft drained my int and wis both to 3, I luckily found a mushroom of restoring on the same level. i had my str drained a different time, and then found a potion of restore str. It is important to id things on those levels for restoring stats.

After around 1600 ft, the monsters started getting tough and I was running low on scrolls of teleportation. So I dove quickly by using the detect stairs spell.

Once I was on 2000 ft, I had my warrior dive to 1000 ft, and then sell a mords that it found to the 6 in 1000, and then my rogue bought it back from the 6 in 2000 ft. So my mords went from a warrior at 1000 ft who hasn't made it to 2000 ft and later got killed by nexus hounds to my rogue at 2000 ft.

Then, at 2050 ft, Quaker came though walls and made earthquakes. The walls surrounded me and I forgot what my macros for ironman were after not playing ironman for several weeks. So I was killed in 2 seconds.
