Changing Kavlax to a multicolored M

Post by Emulord » Thu 25.03.2010, 07:18

Since he has many heads, him being a hydra/dragon would make him really stand out as a multicolored M. He is far too dangerous than he should be only because he looks just like a mature/young/baby Multihued dragon. Then when you'd see him, you'd go "woah, whos this guy?"

I agree, there's been numerous times where I've run in to him and was surprised. All this leads to is me being paranoid about flashy "d"s and constantly wasting time 'l'ooking. Same thing with Gorlim, Betrayer of Barahir to a lesser extent.

*I agree*

Though I agree a little bit less for gorlim, since I'm already afraid of ALL ps once I get to gorlim depth, since they all start to be able to summon.

Vanilla already changed that. All uniques monsters have a specific color in the latest version, so that they can't be confused with common monsters.

yeah but that change is dull. Plus then you cant tell the difference between Saruman and Brooda.
I think keeping our uniques looking like they do is fine, with minor modifications so you can see the difference easier. The only possible hidden ones are Shelob/cave spider and Kavlax. There are probably some other ones I dont know about.

Those that haven't been mentioned here yet:

- Drauglin (brown C - looks like a wolf and appears with escorts of wolves sometimes)
- Carcharoth (Red C - looks like a harmless hellhound, but is definately not harmless)
- The 3 purple U's that look like lesser/great balrogs, but they're not a huge problem, as you need to be extremely careful about balrogs anyway.
- Castamir the Usurper (pink p - looks like illusionist)
- The 4 elemental lords - Waldern, Vargo, Quaker and Ariel. All look like elementals of the corresponding type, but are extremely deadly unless you're prepared for em.
- Itangast the fire drake, Smaug the golden and Glaurung all look like dracolisks (pink D)
- Eol, the dark elf (looks like a standard dark elf)
- Ar-Pharazon the golden (looks like a ninja)
- Ungolianth also looks like a cave spider.

Another somewhat related issue is the huge difference in difficulty between ancient dragons and wyrms, they also look the same.

Should something be done about this? - maybe, but such a change must be discussed and thought through before it is made.

TomeNET made some changes to appearance for D's we might be able to steal. They added more kinds of shimmering, so great Hell Wyrms shimmer between dark red, red, and light red. The other wyrms do similar kinds of shimmering. We could make certain uniques or other creatures shimmer in a similar fashion so they're more obvious.

This was recently discussed (changing the appearance of uniques in some cases), and I think it will be done in the next version. The argument about Kavlax being more appropriate in the 'M' group is new to me though, I guess it makes sense, will research it.
