What do other games do well?

Post by Berendol » Mon 30.07.2007, 15:10

What other role playing games do you play, online or offline, electronic or not... and what do they do particularly well? Pick a few that you play often and know well.

We may be able to learn from them, and get new ideas for MAngband. Let's not copy their material verbatim, but rather seek inspiration from the success of other games.
By appreciation, we make excellence in others our own property. (Voltaire)

Something MAngband often lacks that many successful games have is active DM presence. It would be nice if Crimson had some henchmen that could fix bugs and what not, but then there would be not much stopping them from using their powerz to start adding items and shops and turning the game into a Tome or BMang clone.

A bit of this is actually afoot behind the scenes currently. While of course mangband moves forward at a slow pace, over the last number of months there has been some progress in beginning to set things up to allow work to be done on the code base more easily.

Not that it would necessarily be a bad thing if they did  ;D
