... you drop your CCWs after clearing a vault to make room for another item, then Ariel shows around the corner and start confusing you on every turn... and you lose the most promising character you ever had on the instance to stupidity D:

Moral of the story... always carry CCWs (and a staff of teleportation) even at mid/high level until you resist confusion - overconfidence will make you learn the basic rules of the game the hard way

Considering the options I had... I should probably have zapped that rod of recall, dunno maybe recall would have kicked in before death. Or maybe simply log off immediately after having been confused. Well... back to another char.

Logging off is no solution and dropping ccws was a minor mistake. You would have been confused again, before you could escape.
The mistakes were lacking rconf and no escape staves.
In theorie there was a small surviving chance with swapping the weapons to produce earthquakes. This can even remove monsters or at least
move the monster behind a new created wall.
