Sorry to say it, but I've always considered aggravation as the worst feature in the game. Remember that monsters will wake up AND act the same turn when you use stairs or recall on a level with aggravation on (this was changed in V, and should probably be changed in MAngband too). The only time I've found the One Ring, I was using *destruction* immediately after using stairs and had the finger constantly on the *des* macro after recall. Permanent aggravation means paranoid playing...

Heh, yeah, I was being stupid not immediately destructing upon seeing monsters every time i >'d. A bad habit I gained from the time when I could only read destruction scrolls, and thus needed to be frugal with them.
Still feel ok with this death. Got a rather challenging character to a point close to killing Morgoth =)
