crap... i thaught this was like ultimud  :o
anyway, i have absolutely no knowledge of coding whatsoever.
are there any engines out there like ultimud (the only problem is no factions yet) that doesnt require coding knowledge?

No idea about ultimud, Omera. You might wanna try Google.

MAngband does not support "factions" although it would technically be possible. That gives me an interesting idea for much later on in development.. multi towns, with armies, and each town's inhabitants (depending on race, you start in X town with X instance of the traditional dungeon) are permanently hostile towards certain other towns... But that's a TON of code.

Learn a programming language, it'll do ya good. Most of the good books are about $40-$60.

Yeah, to be clear here: MAngband is not a mud, MAngband is instead a roguelike. IE, we use ascii characters as graphic tiles to depict a dungeon as a grid of tiles/squares. We are not a text-based world like a mud.

Well, actually, I've heard it described as a MUD, and technically by the definition of MUD, MAngband is one... Multi User Dungeon. The control and display aren't typical of MUDs, though, and the software underneath is all different.

Uh, no. Be very assured that MAngband is not a mud. The concept of a mud is more than the three words chosen for the name of the genre.

That would be like saying that every class in D&D is a fighter, since they all fight. When really, we all agree that the melee class is a "fighter". It was stupid to rename Thief to Rogue, and I protest it constantly.

Either way, a MUD has a certain definition behind its name. If there were no definitions behind a genre name besides the name itself, then you could say Halo is an RPG because you play the role of master chief.

The game is best described as a (semi-)action-RPG Roguelike. Dungeoncrawl is optional because it is implied by roguelike, it is like saying MMO, it implies it is an RPG, but MMO is a specific type of RPG while Roguelike is a specific type of Dungeoncrawler. There are certain exceptions to the rules, but Mandband is definitely not a MUD >_<
