Ok... casting dispel evil in this situation is great (fast and huge xp)... but you need 3 prerequisites:
1) Fire immunity: 25 lesser balrogs breathing fire together will instakill your character even with double fire resist
2) Antisummon cell: only one demon will be able to melee you, and you have control about what is summoned

3) A lot of restore mana potions...

This situation works really well against o, T, and P pits (so long as no Lesser / Greater Titans, and you can survive orc shamen/ Troll Priests / Cloud Giants). But you still need restore mana potions or lots of wis & regen & hopefully the dispel evil in Word of God.
For U or D pits, you need to have the right immunities, and Its still safer to make antisummoning corridors and draw them out slowly.
Us, really powerful Ds and Titans can summon, so its sometimes best to do the antisummoning corridors even if your character is sufficiently god-like.
The Wrath of God book's dispel evil really is great because its 10 mana instead of 20 and does more damage.

... and you can always use staves:
1) staff of dispel evil: same as the spell, low damage
2) staff of power: 120 damage to all monsters
3) staff of holiness: 120 damage to evil monsters + a lot of nice effects (cure, protection from evil...)
