The most dangerous monsters are not what you think

What's the most dangerous monster? Aether hound or gnome mage?
At 6350ft, it's not the one you think...
A lone aether hound, or even a small pack, can be dispatched using careful tactics.
A gnome mage, if not taken seriously, can do something that would be harmless at low depth, but deadly at the bottom of the dungeon... summon something that has a level equal to 5 + (gnome mage level + depth) / 2, which at bottom could be a pack of aether hounds!

my most detested monster at the bottom is the mimic. If your not carefull, you will not see it. But yeah, any monsters that CAN summon become *dangerous*. I'd say the ones you least expect to be dangerous are the most dangerous, simply because you won't be carefull with them.
Anything worth being done, is worth being overdone.

What about any monster with Tele-to? They can totally screw up your tactics, pulling you in a room where everything breathes and hits you to kill you.

Umber Hulks too. Low level guys that can open a vault so everything pours out to kill you.
Also, I like to look at the "top killers" on the statistics page.

For high levels, mostly Hounds and Gorlim, Betrayer of Barahir. That guy is powerful for his depth

The problem with bolt/ball casters is that their spells aren't related to hp like breaths. The Tarrasque breathing disenchantment when it has 10 hps left is harmless. Gorlim, or stronger casters like Sauron and Morgoth, can cast spells for over 500 dam, even when they have 1 hp left (and furthermore even when fleeing!). That's why they are really dangerous.
