Unlikely findings... (needlessly long)

Hello, this is my first post. Some of you already know me from rescuing me from my stupid low-level deaths.
I'm a not particularly experienced player, I've played angband for some months now, and I switched Mang that I play quite extenslively now (more or less everyday).

Thias said...
I was rebuilding my 20th lvl (former 25th :() Priest that lost two levles and almost all equip&gold by two stupid deaths in a row....
I started from 50', and go down looking for every eurocent I can find... At dlvl 800' I have something like 10k, and I see a red ? on the floor. Oh, another unusable low level book... No wait, in 0.7.2 store books are pink, so I can sell it for about 10-20k needed gold.
I take it, read the name, complain with the other players that I found this powerful book that I can't use, then everybody forgets it.
I recall, do my affairs, wow, now I'm quite a decent character... OK, I can recall down, no wait, I still have 5000 gold to leave in home (in case I die again)... And, oh, still that book to sell, let's go in 6, d e y... WTF?!?!
My eyes almost popped out: it red "Selling Raal's Tome of Destruction for 450000?"
Having found it at 800' I didn't paid particual attention to what ecaxtly I had in my purse...  I mean I don't usually play mages&C only "red magic" char is a 9th level kobold ranger in vanilla, and, heck...
I'm impressed, I always had been broken poor in mangband,

Of course I exit the shop, these things must not be taken lighthearted, and the shopkeeper said that he couldn't pay me more than 450000, take or leave, so I guess the book is worth more... (my items pricing file says it should be 100000, I guess it's a bit outdated)
I locked it in one of my huses, and deleted the tag on key and door. No, I won't tell your 51th clvl Burglar what house is ;P

I ask around, and Fink tell me I risk to be audited if my gold skyrockets that way... and I understand that.
He tells me to write this post in the forum in order to warn Crimson that my gain is legitimate...
But this night I tought about it, and I started to ask myself: does it *really* is legitimate? I mean, I found it legally, but it was how much Out Of Depth? 2000' ?
It *is* truly an incredible luck but wouldn't be too unbalanced?
What I have to do, Crimson, I sell it now or I have to keep it until it would be less unbalancing, not multiplying my gold x100?

Kind regards to everyone (especially to those that will enlighten me ;)

I'd like to say that you're alright, since you did find it yourself, but I won't speak for Crimson in this regard.

Nice find!! They are supposed to start showing up around 3750' and cost $500k base, so your shopkeeper is holding out on you. If you're going to sell it, sell it to a non-BM shopkeeper of the same race as your character, who has deep pockets (as indicated by the Purse number at the top-right of your screen) and make sure you have lots of CHR at the time.

And yes, Raal's Tome of Destruction, being the 9th and rarest mage book, is VERY expensive if you sell at market value. (As opposed to shop value.) Market value on those skyrockets past 1M in some cases - it's all a matter of who's willing to pay what for one.

This is very important: You would be wise to inscribe something on your key so it doesn't stack with another key. This is a known and currently unfixed bug, whereby you lose one key's house association (PVal) when two keys stack.

yes, the find got flagged in the audit (something towards a 95,000% increase...)

yes, I investigated it, and yes, it's fine.  the audit won't delete you, only I can do that, and I always check first.

nice find, and good luck!

I did it again! and again!
Of course the character that found Raal's died shotly after that, and never got to sell the thing.

The next character found a law dsm at something like 400'
I forgot to tell the Audit... Well, he's dead now. The RGN got its revenge putting the Phoenix in a vault at 900'
(FizII famous last words had been "Well, only 3C and one B left... What's the problem?";)

Now I have found Kelek's Grimoire of Power at 700...
It's not the same thing but, if I manage to stay alive I won't complain ;)

Yes. The RNG giveth, and the RNG taketh away.

A spell of good luck can only mean one thing... time to take a break from the game...

Items generated out of depth usually are accompanied by creatures just as much out of depth. I've killed page 4 uniques and great wyrms in the 1000-1200 ft depth range because they came out of "+" shaped vaults.
Unfortunately I never find big spellbooks at low levels like that. It's always an "excellent"...pick of digging or armor of resist cold. :p
