PWMAngband 1.1.5 is out!

Post by PowerWyrm » Sat 30.10.2010, 00:13

New PWMAngband 1.1.5 (aka build 1) released!

The 1.1.5 version is a milestone version... it includes all changesets from the vanilla Angband bug database up to #1692, which corresponds to the 3.1.1 milestone (plus some features/bugfixes from the 3.1.2 release).
Note that savefile compatibility is broken, so server maintainers will have to restart from a clean instance again. However, the new 1.1.5 version has implemented the block-based savefile system from Vanilla Angband, which should ensure savefile compatibility between versions from now on.

The list of changes below lists all the changes since the last beta update.

Alignments with Angband 3.x:
- General store too restrictive in buying habits (Angband 3.1.2): the General Store now buys back food, light sources, tools and items from the staple list... but the item will instantly vanish from the store's inventory (just like artifacts in other shops)
- Possible infinite loop bug when selecting random extra attributes for ego-items (Angband 3.1.2)
- Fix some issues with smaller levels (Angband 3.1.2)
- Parse random name fragments from an external file (Angband 3.1.2)
- Refactor object_desc (Angband 3.1.2)
- Show player turns on character info screen and in dumps (Angband 3.1.2)
- Move damcalc function out of init.c (Angband 3.1.2)
- Fix flag assignment when selecting random extra attributes for ego-items (Angband 3.1.2)
- Remove destroyed levels (Angband 3.1.2)
- Add center-map action, bind to CTRL-L (Angband 3.1.2): note that CTRL-L is already used in the Roguelike Keyset, so this will only work when using the Original Keyset
- Minor text changes suggested on Oook (Angband 3.1.2)
- Potions of Dragon Breath used from the floor and destroying themselves cause double-delete (Angband 3.1.2)
- Player melee effects now trigger before target death is checked (Angband 3.1.2): this includes cuts, stunning, slowing, fear, confusion and blindness
- Correct some textual errors when examining nonweapons with digging bonus or learning plusses on thrown weapons (Angband 3.1.2)
- Reworded origin of store items to make sense when inspected before purchase (Angband 3.1.2)
- Fix macro warnings (Angband 3.1.2)

Other changes:
- new sound for spell/prayer (the old "clang" sound was annoying)
- connecting to the metaserver doesn't mention the build number anymore
- tell players about the version number (version + build number) in the message window when entering the game
- display the build number (or "beta") in the client main window title bar
- halved the vision range of dragon worms
- breeders will breed more slowly on no_recall servers
- monsters will respawn faster on no_recall servers
- the Expensive Black Market applies a price factor of 5x on no_recall servers
- the General Store should not restock while a player is shopping
- fix game freeze caused by the auto-retaliator when the player is unable to attack due to fear status (sound enabled)
- always memorize interesting features on special levels
- rearrange server character dumps a bit
- fix massive slowdown/socket buffer overflow due to sending too many refresh packets for monster/item lists (one such packet is now sent at most every game turn)
- update help files to reflect all the changes in PWMAngband 1.1.5

Files updated: client, server, lib, source code (and sound fx patch if you didn't get it already).
Files are available for download at the usual location: http://powerwyrm.monsite-orange.fr.
Don't forget to update both clients and servers...

Important note: all older files have been deleted from the usual download location; please upgrade to 1.1.5 if you're still running old servers.

Oh and by the way... one of the forthcoming changes in Vanilla Angband that I'm gonna implement is removing all the *.raw files and the /lib/data subdirectory. The *.txt files in /lib/edit will be directly parsed, so when one of the files is changed, the only thing to do will be to restart the server. This should simplify server maintainance further...

Hey PW, the new server hosted on your website is corrupted or something. I'm using 7-zip, and the client unarchives twice and works, but the server gives me 0 KB files that are empty upon inspection. What archiver program are you using? It might be an uploading problem, but it's probably just my archiver program not recognizing the format.

I just checked with 7-zip (all other extractors won't work since the files are uploaded on an Unix server), and indeed the server file is corrupted. It's in fact an upload problem.
I reuploaded the file. It should be valid now.

I can still use my home server, but I get an "unknown packet type" error connecting to your server.

Edit: got it to work somehow.

You cannot connect to the "wyrmband" server. It still runs the "beta" version of 1.1.5 which is totally incompatible with the latest release.
As explained in this post, if you download the 1.1.5 client/server, you can only play on 1.1.5 servers. If you want to play on a 1.1.5 beta server (not recommended), you must use the old 1.1.5 beta client.

I did update to the non-beta 1.1.5.

I get a ramdom error messages on all the 1.1.5 (non-beta) servers, though once in a while it works, and still no problem on my own server.

What kind of random message?
I suggest you donwload not only the client, but the lib and sound packages too. Backup your *prf files from /lib/user and reinstall client + lib + sound in a clean directory.

That didn't work. I mostly get unknown packet type error, but sometimes disconnected from server error before I can do anything.

Strange...
Tonight I'll put my test server up in debug mode. Try to connect with your client when you see powerwyrm.dyndns.org up, I'll try to figure out what error gets triggered...

This time it gave a "server did not respond" message.

Yeah I know... I was watching TV and when I came back to check my server, I had been disconnected from the Internet (problem with my provider) and I couldn't connect again during the whole evening. You'll have to check tonight again...

I've totally re-downloaded the server files for wyrmband.ath.cx, if the problem persists, I will post the logs on here.
PWMAngband Host - Check out http://www.mangband.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=9 and download the client, server, lib files, sound fx patch and even the source code for this new variant!
