No players?

Post by CyberCube » Sat 24.09.2005, 14:52

First off, I'll say hello, since this is my first post. Second, I noticed there are rarely any players. Do I need to configure my router, or are the servers just empty? Thanks in advance, and sorry if this was posted before.
Sword? Oh, this. Yeah, I use it for... um... *stab*

Unfortunately, the servers are empty because there are few people who play on them anymore.  I think Mangband needs another generation of players or something, since myself and all the others who used to play have sort of moved on and several even beat the game before leaving.  It is still a fun game.  Try to get some friends to play it with you.  I still lurk on these forums might start playing again someday if a new version came out....but it seems that the maintainer, Crimson, doesn't have the time to work on the game anymore, but we still thank him for all the work that he has done to make Mangband what it is.

Also, I hate to mention it on the Mangband forums, but Tomenet does have an active player base and is still being actively developed.  Tomenet is a bit more complicated though and it takes some getting used to.

Hey cybercube, glad you found this game. Unfortunately, as Narchan said, this is kind of a bad time for MAngband. I try to play when I can, and when I last checked there were still a few active players, at least one of which was high level 30's, so you may meet somebody online sometime. If not, keep playing, develop a good character, and help out new players whenever you see them on; this game needs everyone who is willing to play. I will try to log on sometime this weekend, but I don't really have any decent chars right now. Hopefully I will see you soon, and if you die, don't give up, that's part of the game and you will learn from it.

Nice to see you back, Bigjuan.
I'll just have to be careful not to broadcast my location when I die in the wilderness and leave behind a shiny new Power DSM.

Whee!! New guy!

Welcome to MAngband. Hope you enjoy yourself!

If you have any ideas for improvements, go ahead and post them in the proper forum section. We programmers like having something to read and think about adding next time we're working on the game. Also it sparks discussions which, as a hopeless forum junkie, I really like!

I'm not all that active in the community anymore but I do peruse the forums every few days just to make sure things are okay and everyone's playing nice on the forums. I just don't have time to play with the onset of the later years of college and everything that comes with that. I do keep my custom sources and binaries online for everyone, though.

I dunno - I think it might be best to not set unrealistic expectations about posting feedback on the game :P
